Ronda
Ronda is our nearest town, about 15 minutes´ drive from Cartajima. It is where we do all our shopping and laundry and bureaucracy. When the hotel opened its doors to the public in 2004, one would frequently go to the Costa del Sol to purchase speciality food items. This was not the way to keep it simple. And local. So nowadays a lot comes from a radius of 40 km including our delicious Ronda wines.
Ronda is an ancient foundation with much to offer the curious traveller. There are famous monuments and interesting museums, art galleries and touristy shops for souvenirs. Among the international tat you can find treasures – beautiful traditional ceramics for example that would not look out of place in your home back home.
Ronda has become a gastronomic centre with some of the finest gastro tapa bars as well as quaint traditional places with scores of hams hanging from the rafters.
It is a bullfighting centre and claims to have the oldest bullring in Spain. Worth visiting if just for the socio-cultural aspect that you can experience in the museum.
The image at the top of this page is of old Roman Ronda, called Acinipo, created for retired vets. It is a short drive north from modern Ronda and, even if you are European and well used to Roman ruins, this one is special. The theatre is pretty much intact and it´s a thrill to sit in the stands and imagine what went on there two millennia ago.
Early human activity near Ronda is visible in the paleolithic cave of Cueva de la Pileta a truly wondrous experience. Let us know if you want to take a tour and we can reserve for you.
