Olive Oil Tasting

Olive oil tasting Andalucia! Doesn´t that sound romantic! Such an ancient craft and we are fortunate to have several mills where you indulge your taste buds and see if you can tell the difference between the various olive oil grades. I have in my kitchen three different sorts of olive oil alone not to mention the avocado oil which is wonderful for cooking at high temperatures.

At 856 metres, Cartajima is a little high for the olive to grow well. There are a few but not in commercial quantities. However, in nearby Ronda you can experience the olive in all its variations and stages of production and, most importantly, tasting!

Aceites Gil Luna in the lovely town of El Burgo is a long established factory that produces Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO as it is called in cookbooks) both ecological as well as regular although why anybody would want regular when they can get ecological I can´t imagine. Perhaps a price thing.

Anyway, their charming manager, Mariló, offers guided tours and tastings which my guests have raved about. Here is a link to their website. You can either make your own arrangements or I can help you. So if the idea of olive oil tasting Andalucia appeals, just ask!

And, while we are on the subject of olive oil, I came across this site which will answer any questions you might have about the production, consumption, selection…

The best place to taste olive oil in Ronda is LA ORGANIC EXPERIENCE which is just outside Ronda on the Campillos road.

It is a wonderful experience and highly recommended. Costs just 20 euros per person including the tasting.
