Guests of Los Castaños are often surprised when they learn that Africa is just 14 km from the shores of Andalucia.
The links between the two are equally close – spiritually, culturally, historically. It saddens me when my adventurous guests do not take advantage of this proximity to experience something completely different but I understand that it can be intimidating. So if this is something that would interest you, please let me know when you make your reservation and I can send you details of how you can arrange your day trip to Tangier.
The drive to Tarifa where the ferry leaves takes less than two hours from Cartajima and goes through magnificent Andalucian countryside. Tarifa overlooks the Straits of Gibraltar and was the first place where the Moors stepped foot in Europe in 711 CE. There are ferries all day and the crossing takes about 45 minutes. It is possible to stay the night in Tarifa, get an early morning ferry and return in the evening giving you a full day to experience Tangier.
We can help you organise your trip and there are trusted guides who will greet you. negotiate your entry into Morocco, guide you through the chaos of the port, and whisk you away for a full day’s tour of this ancient and fascinating city: browse the souks, meander the Kasbah, visit the historic sights and return you safely to the ferry back to Tarifa.
